Visits and visitors

At Beaufort Primary School, we place great value on children learning outside of the classroom.  Outdoor learning offers many opportunities for learners to deepen and contextualise their understanding within curriculum areas, and for linking learning across the curriculum in different contexts and at all levels. Educational day trips outside the classroom, residential visits or specialists visiting a class or group can inspire and motivate our children in new and exciting ways, helping to bring learning to life.

All educational visits are conducted in such a manner as to safeguard and promote the Health and Safety of all pupils and staff involved in the visit.  Any member of staff planning a visit is expected to go through a robust procedure, including rigorous risk assessment and levels of approval.

All Educational Visit activities will support the aims of the school, enriching the curriculum and making learning more meaningful and relevant to our pupils. Through our off-site visits, we aim to:

  • Provide a wider range of experiences for our pupils than could be provided on the school site alone, developing knowledge, understanding and skills through experience that is not achievable in the classroom.
  • Enhance curricular and recreational opportunities for our pupils, enabling them to learn in context, to learn by practical engagement and to learn by personal discovery.
  • Provide new opportunities for personal, social and emotional development, for character building and independence, enabling our children to grow and develop in new environments.

Examples of the sorts of visits and visitors we have had include:

  • Visits from ‘people who help us’ including the fire brigade, police, doctors and dentists.
