Beaufort Primary School has been concerned for a number of years at its ability to teach its children to swim to a sufficient level of proficiency particularly given the proximity of the lake and canal. Access to swimming pools involves off-site trips which have become increasingly difficult to arrange and come at an increasing cost to parents (due partly to the travel). In 2016, the senior leadership team of the school started investigating the possibility of building a pool on our own site. It was identified that this should be designed as a community facility given the lack of pool provision in our immediate area and to allow the pool to be self-funding or, indeed, to provide an income stream to support other school activities.
Work on the planning of the pool started in 2017. An architect was appointed in early 2018 and a planning application lodged in July. We are currently going through the planning process.
The pool will be a 4-lane 25m pool and the building will also incorporate a small gym for use by members of the community. The plan is to build the pool on land to the south of the Early Years building. Full details of the plan can be found in the planning application documents submitted to the Council. These can be viewed on the Council’s planning portal at https://caps.woking.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=PCJ5RGRUK4P00&activeTab=summary
Planning permission was granted in October 2019. A working party is now starting the process of fundraising for the pool. If any parent or grandparent is interested in helping in any way with the fundraising, then please contact the school by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org
