Residential visits

Residential experiences are an important part of what we offer children here at Beaufort. These essential experiences allow our children to develop resilience, perseverance, team work skills and independence.  They also get to experience specialist activities which we wouldn’t be able to provide in school, as well as spend quality time connecting with nature in the great outdoors.  Because we believe that residential trips are an integral part of the children’s learning, we make every effort to make them affordable and support our families who might otherwise struggle with the finances of the trip through the seeking of bursaries and donations from local charities. Our disadvantaged children are also supported through the Pupil Premium funding. In recent years, we have been helped by charities such as Woking District Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Woking and Woking Lions to whom we are very grateful.

The experiences we offer build up as children progress through the school, so that they are well prepared.  In Year 3, we offer a sleepover in school as a taster for residential experiences.  For many children this is their first night away from home and the familiar setting of the school can help to ease this first experience. During the sleepover, the children will play games outside, engage in a learning walk, enjoy a campfire and sleep with their friends in the school hall.

In Year 4 the children go away to Sayers Croft, near Cranleigh, where they stay in chalets and take part in activities such as pond-dipping, abseiling and orienteering.

In Year 5 the children go to High Ashurst near Dorking and get to camp in authentic teepees high in the Surrey hills.  Here the children learn to challenge themselves on high ropes and climbing walls.

In their last year at Beaufort, the Year 6 children travel to Avon Tyrrell in Hampshire where the children take part in adventurous activities including water sports and mountain biking.
